Sunshine Summit Lodge: Helping Addicts Find Lasting Sobriety

Many people find recovering from drug addiction to be the hardest challenge they have ever accomplished. To truly know the depths an addict sinks to is nearly impossible for anyone else to understand, except another addict. The staff at Sunshine Summit Lodge truly knows how addiction feels because a majority of them have been in the downward spiral of addiction themselves.

Their program takes a person whose life is centered on substance abuse, chaos and self-destruction and teaches them to live a life built upon purpose, direction and integrity. The recovering person’s rehabilitation process begins with their completion of the New Life Detoxification Method. Building upon the persons detoxification process the Sunshine Summit Lodge utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Modification Model of drug addiction recovery.

Their philosophy on addiction is different from most other programs; drug addiction is not a disease. It is not something the person has “picked up” or “contracted”. Addiction is a problem developed over a period of time that causes changes in the drug addict. While the drug user habitually abuses drugs or alcohol their brain (and body depending on the substance) expects the substance to be used. If the drug addict stops taking it their body begins the process of drug withdrawal. This causes cravings, emotional breakdowns and many other physical symptoms depending on the drug one is addicted too.

Working through the Sunshine Summit Lodge drug rehab program address the numerous issues the addict has developed before and during their addiction. The program features withdrawal, detoxification and education on life skills. Graduates find that they no longer wear the label of “addict” or “alcoholic”. They take control of the choices they make and responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Lasting sobriety comes with knowing important life skills and tools to get through even the most difficult of predicaments without turning to drugs.

  1. I have seen and been through a lot of traumatic and difficult experiences in my life. My struggle with alcohol and pills was perhaps the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. It took me a long time to come to grips with the fact that I had a problem. I thought that I was in control of my life and my behavior but in all reality I wasn’t. I was distancing myself from my family and my friends so that I could deal with my issues by drinking and taking pills to numb everything that I didn’t like feeling. I had a lot of buddies that were involved in 12 Step programs and they would take to me about the “disease” of alcoholism and how to handle it by going to meetings, working the steps, and turning my life over to a higher power. But when I thought about the concept of my drinking being a disease I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I would say to myself, “How did I contract this disease.” I struggled with the idea and my problem for quite some time before my wife and I started looking into treatment options for me. We found the Narconon Program at Sunshine Summit Lodge after a while and did some research on it. We were amazed when we found out about the ideas that the program had about addiction and alcoholism. We saw that alcoholism wasn’t a disease and that it was treatable. I really liked what the program had to offer so I enrolled and went out to Sunshine Summit Lodge. From the day I got there until the day I graduated I knew that I was in the right place and that I was getting help. Everything I did there, from the New Life Detoxification Program to the Cognitive Behavioral Methods, were things that helped me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I made a lot of changes to my life and the way I saw and thought about things. I dealt with things that I thought were going to cause me pain for the remainder of my life. Everyday there I made progress and fixed all the broken pieces of my life. Since going through Sunshine Summit Lodge I have been sober and clean for 5 years. I have an amazing relationship with my wife and sons and I feel like I did before I ever started drinking and using. I am in control of my life and I know that I don’t have a disease that will plague me for the rest of my life. I’m a sober, responsible, and free man today and life couldn’t be better.

  2. It is amazing to witness the before and after of a student at Sunshine Summit Lodge, the student comes in of course in a very bad state because of the life that they have been living. As they wake up each day drug free doing the program, gaining more and more control of their life, they look good, care about their family members again, the smile returns to their face. You guys are the best. Thank You, For giving loved ones back to their families whole again. The staff at Sunshine Summit Lodge are my angels from heaven. Thank You, God for putting them there to save lives!!!!!!
