Overcoming my Addiction

I started out using opiates may years ago and it did not take long for me to change into the ultimate addict. It was not until my family initiated an intervention that I fully understood how I was destroying more than just myself. Despite taking the steps to get here, it was not till yesterday that I decided that I truly needed to stay. In my third day of withdrawal I had my mind made up. I wanted to leave; I wanted to run from my problems and from my fear. I was so focused and determined to go; an all too familiar feeling that I would get when I was going to plan to meet my dealers. It was not until I listened to my mom’s voice as she cried and spelled out my future if I took that route that I came to my senses and my thought patterns returned to normal. I still have a long road ahead of me but this is a start to my story of overcoming my addiction and my ultimate success.
