Begin the Process of Rehabilitation from the Inside Out

Over time, drug addiction and alcoholism take a huge toll on the user’s body. To be able to fully recover from one’s addiction issues and restore a person back to their peek physical condition it is essential that the person in recovery understand all of the conditions that could hinder their rehabilitation process. Getting a complete physical is a necessary part of understanding one’s current physical state and what is needed to improve their overall health.

In addition to addressing the general health of a recovering individual, working to flush out the toxins and metabolites left behind by drug and alcohol use is a key step in one’s recovery process. When a person consumes alcohol or takes drugs their body stores the toxins and metabolites in the user’s fatty tissue. Going through a total body purification process will effectively remove these remaining toxins and metabolites giving the person’s body new life and vitality.

This chemical buildup of drug toxins and metabolites does not necessarily create any effect while they are stored in the person’s tissue; it is when they are ultimately released into the person’s body that they trigger cravings and physical compulsions to use. The toxins become dislodged and released at haphazard times – anything from exercise to stress can cause them to become dislodged and circulate in the blood, essentially re-stimulating the user once again. When this happens the user experiences a physical, emotional and psychological reaction to the re-stimulating effects of the drug/alcohol toxins and metabolites.

A sauna-based detoxification process cleanses the person’s body of any residual toxins and metabolites and works to end physical cravings for alcohol and drugs. Narconon Fresh Start uses the New Life Detoxification Program to fully detoxify their clients. This program consists of a protocol of medically supervised exercise, time spent sweating in a dry sauna and scientifically formulated nutritional supplements that target the fatty tissue to release the residual drug and alcohol toxins and metabolites.

The New Life Detoxification program is a process that takes several weeks. While it can be a challenging part of the rehabilitation process, the results program participants gain from completing the sauna detoxification program are numerous. Within the first week of the New Life Detoxification program clients begin to have color back in their face, their eyes appear brighter and clearer and their energy levels increase. As they progress through their sauna detox program clients comment that they are sleeping better at night and waking well rested in the morning. Their mood swings diminish and their anxiety levels balance out leaving them feeling more centered and balanced than they have felt in years; often when this portion of the Narconon Fresh Start program is complete client’s state that they feel more like themselves and more alive and healthy than ever before.

Alcohol Drug Rehab

Here in the United States alcohol is one of the most commonly abused substances. Depending on the time of day, it is not unusual to see a large number of patrons at restaurants consuming beer, wine or hard liquor. That number grows experientially at bars and night clubs in the evening when patrons frequent the establishments solely to get a drink and socialize. Even though drinking alcohol is legal for people 21 and older, it is still a drug and an addictive substance. People drink alcohol for a variety of reasons: to relax, have fun, be part of a group, curiosity, to escape from boredom also to alleviate physical or psychological pain.

While the great majority of alcohol users do not develop a problem with the substance, many unfortunately do. For these alcoholics, treatment to end their alcohol addiction usually requires they attend an alcohol drug rehab program. Ending alcoholism takes a lot more than strong self-control and willpower; it takes changing the way the alcoholic functions in the world around them. Conquering alcoholism is something that Narconon Fresh Start drug rehab programs is able to achieve and has been doing so for over 45 years.

Their long-term residential programs address the client’s issues with alcohol while also uncovering and resolving the underlying problems that drove the person to drink in the first place. While attending one of Narconon Fresh Start’s alcohol rehabilitation locations the program participant will:

  • fully withdraw from alcohol and any other substance they are dependent on
  • go through a total body purification process like none they have ever experienced before effectively ridding them of future physical cravings for alcohol or other drugs
  • learn to live life as a sober individual
  • learn key life skills necessary to maintain their sobriety
  • create a battle plan for their future

When the program participant completes their treatment at Narconon Fresh Start they no longer consider themselves an “alcoholic” or an “addict” because they have been fully rehabilitated; with over three quarters of Narconon Fresh Start graduates never returning to a life of alcohol or drug use after completing the program. They now have all the necessary tools and skills to remain sober and face challenges without resorting to drinking or using. Narconon Fresh Start drug rehab programs do not use any drug replacement or drug substitution therapy so graduates complete treatment and do not take any prescription medication to ensure their sobriety. Also, they do not need to attend meetings to maintain the gains they have achieved while in drug rehab. Graduates of the Narconon Fresh Start drug and alcohol rehab program are able to seamlessly reintegrate into their families, friendships and communities.

Teen Drinking

Drug rehabilitation professionals are concerned about the steady increase in teen alcohol abuse and the many negative health effects associated with it. Adolescence is a time when a young person undergoes many significant changes (body, mind & thoughts); it can feel overwhelming and unfamiliar them. It is also a time when these young adults begin to associate more with friends and acquaintances beyond their childhood contacts. They feel an increased pressure to fit in or go along with the crowd in order to be accepted socially. Exposing the brain to alcohol during this period may interrupt key processes of brain development, possibly leading to mild cognitive impairment as well as further escalation in drinking tendencies.

A scientific study of short-term memory skills between alcohol-dependent and nondependent teens ages 15 and 16 found that the alcohol-dependent youth had greater difficulty remembering words and simple geometric designs after a 10-minute interval. In this and similar studies memory problems were most common among adolescents in treatment who had experienced alcohol withdrawal symptoms. The emergence of withdrawal symptoms generally indicates an established pattern of heavy drinking. Their appearance at a young age underscores the need for early intervention to prevent and treat underage drinking.

Teen alcohol abuse may have long lasting consequences. People who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence at some time in their lives compared with those who have their first drink at age 20 or older. While habitual underage drinking does not imply that the individual will develop alcoholism, it is a strong indicator that they may have some form of substance abuse and addiction as they get older. Other factors that contribute to a person developing alcoholism include environmental factors; especially in alcoholic families where children may start drinking earlier because of easier access to alcohol in the home, family acceptance of drinking and lack of parental monitoring.

Narconon Fresh Start drug rehab centers can help address teen and underage drinking. Whether the individual attends one of the Narconon Fresh Start program centers or is put in contact with a facility that specialized in teen alcoholism and rehabilitation, the help they receive will greatly benefit them. Without proper treatment, the young adult will sink further into their alcohol addiction and may suffer physical, psychological and emotional problems that will haunt them throughout their life. Choosing to get treatment as soon as the problem has been detected is the best way of preventing long-term issues from developing. Letting the problem escalate typically means the individual will have to work harder to end their addiction and likely suffer additional withdrawal symptoms.

Is alcoholism a disease

While this is a subject that is under a lot of debate among drug rehabilitation professionals and medical researchers, Rainbow Canyon Retreat drug rehab does not subscribe to the disease model of addiction when it comes to alcoholism or drug addiction. Currently, there is very little evidence to support the idea that alcoholism is a “disease”; some researchers have turned up evidence that alcohol addiction has a biochemical component. The disease model dictates that a person who has an addiction problem, whether it is alcohol or any other substance has been stricken with an incurable disease that they can never overcome but only hope to cope with for the rest of their days. Currently, the most successful treatment philosophies on alcoholism recovery address alcohol addiction as a physical, mental and spiritual problem.

Rainbow Canyon Retreat knows that alcohol addiction is both a learned behavior and physical conditioning to using alcohol. Once a person has chosen to consume alcohol in excess for a period of months their body and mind begin to make changes to accommodate the substance in their body.  While these changes will go back to normal after some time without alcohol, proper treatment for alcoholism is necessary to ensure the individual does not return to a life of alcohol abuse.

The drug and alcohol rehab program offered at Rainbow Canyon Retreat encompasses all aspects of one’s recovery from start to finish. During the program participant’s time in treatment they will:

  • fully withdrawal from alcohol
  • go through a body cleansing and purification process like none other they have ever experienced
  • address their personal underlying issues that drove them to alcohol
  • learn necessary life skills to handle day to day life clean and sober
  • develop a battle plan for their future once they return home from alcohol rehab

All steps of the Rainbow Canyon Retreat program are conducted at the drug rehab facility. When program participant’s graduate from the drug rehab they are equipped with all the knowledge, skills and tools they need. They are no longer alcoholics controlled by alcohol or any other substance because they have been fully rehabilitated through the Rainbow Canyon Retreat drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.

Remaining in treatment

Entering drug rehab means admitting that you need help with your substance abuse and that you were unable to stop using on your own. While many people enter treatment willingly, some do so only to get their loved ones off their back about their drug or alcohol use. Whether the program participant has entered the program willingly or not, they will probably struggle at one time or another about remaining in treatment. There will be many hurdles and obstacles to overcome that challenge even the most devoted program participant. One of the key times a program participant may become upset and want to leave is during the withdrawal process. Withdrawal is often physically uncomfortable and the drug cravings, drug using dreams and emotional discomfort is exceptionally difficult to get through. However, once this phase of treatment has passed the program participant often begins to feel much better and slowly embarks on the process of learning to live a drug-free lifestyle.

Narconon Fresh Start drug rehab programs understand how difficult the process of drug rehabilitation can be. This is why they have created many techniques to help their clients get through the desire to leave and ultimately make the choice to stay and work on achieving lasting sobriety. Many staff members are former clients who have completed the program. They are able to personally identify with program participants and address their feelings and compulsions very effectively.
