Narconon Fresh Start Will Help Overcome Addiction to Concerta

At Narconon Fresh Start, we can help clients discover what prompted the Concerta addiction and then help them develop drug-free ways to deal with these issues so that they don’t feel the need to return to use of Concerta or other drugs in the future.

What is Concerta?

Concerta is a prescription drug which is categorized as a stimulant, and is used to treat “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder” (ADHD) in both children and adults. While other prescription stimulants are available and widely used to treat such disorders, Concerta is a slow-release version of methylphenidate hydrochloride whereas other versions deliver the drug into the system all at once such as Ritalin for example. Much like Ritalin and other prescription stimulants, use of Concerta even for so-called legitimate purposes carries great risks. Also, prescription stimulants such as Concerta are highly abused among both legitimate prescription holders and among individuals who abuse prescription stimulants such as Concerta recreationally and without a prescription.

Side Effects

All drugs containing methylphenidate hydrochloride can cause serious side effects including heart attack and stroke, particularly among individuals who have pre-existing heart problems. Because someone may not be aware of a pre-existing heart problem before starting “therapy” with Concerta or before using it non-medically, truly anyone is at risk of such effects. Because Concerta is a stimulant, it is going to be abused among recreational drug users who want to experience a rush of energy or alertness from the drug. And because drugs like Concerta are often abused along with other drugs and alcohol when abused non-medically, non-medical users in particular are at an increased risk of experiencing negative and life-threatening side effects. Other drugs and alcohol should never be used with Concerta of course, and when used legitimately doctors would warn patients of this. But when being abused, individuals don’t often stop to think about such consequences.

One of the dangers with Concerta when abused in this way is that unlike Ritalin or Adderall it is a time release drug, and so individuals who may crush the drug to abuse it much like someone would abuse an illicit drug is bypassing this time release function. Too much methylphenidate hydrochloride is then released into the system which intensifies the stimulant effects but also of course intensifies the negative effects. If someone is experiencing signs of a Concerta overdose because of this including any respiratory or cardiac symptoms, they should seek medical attention immediately.

Getting Help

Individuals who use Concerta both legitimately and non-medically will often develop dependence to the drug and have difficulty getting off of it even when they want to. This is true for all methylphenidate hydrochloride products including Ritalin and Adderall. If someone has been using the drug regularly over an extended period of time, they should actually never attempt to stop using it abruptly as this too could cause negative side effects known as withdrawal which could be dangerous in some instances. Narconon Fresh Start can help individuals through the withdrawal process safely, so that there is minimal discomfort and to ensure this is a safe process. For individuals who have been using Concerta for whatever reason, it is important to address why they felt the need to use the drug in the first place.

Accomplishing Lasting Sobriety

Drug and alcohol addiction doesn’t have to control your life any longer. It may sound impossible, but you can have a life completely free from substance use of any kind. The new life you create for yourself can be filled with wonderful, healthy highs and a sense of purpose you probably don’t feel at this moment. I can imagine that if you are struggling with an addiction problem right now your sole purpose is to get the drugs you feel you need. After that, the only drive you probably feel is to use them in an attempt to feel the “high” you keep chasing and so desperately want to feel. You may even be struggling with achieving the feeling you are looking for because your drug use has escalated and you tolerance has increased. It may be nearly impossible for you to find pleasure in the little things in life (a shooting star, a beautiful rainbow after the storm, etc.) any longer because they seem so unimportant and meaningless.

I know how you feel; I’ve been there myself. While I have over a decade of sobriety under my belt I still vividly remember the feelings, thoughts and emotions that I struggled with during the darkest days of my addiction to cocaine and a laundry list of other substances. I had become a shell of my former self and was so completely unhappy with my life that I didn’t respect myself physically or emotionally. I put myself in very dangerous situations, sometimes intentionally with no care as to whether I would walk away from the experience. My days were spent sleeping and recovering from the previous night. My nights were filled with chaos and fuelled by constant drug use; everything from marijuana, ecstasy, acid, pills to cocaine (my drug of choice).

When I finally took a long hard look at myself and the life I was living I realized that I was so miserable. I wanted out of it all. I tried several times to stop on my own but… one thing led to another and there I was doing another line like I promised myself I wouldn’t. It was disappointing and made me feel ashamed of my lack of willpower. As a side note, I later learned that it wasn’t a lack of willpower that kept me from staying sober. It was the changes in my brain from continual drug use that sent non-stop messages and urges to use; these messages from my brain told my body that it didn’t feel “normal” unless it had a substance in it.  I also realize now that I hadn’t developed any healthy ways to handle stress or day to day problems that arose. My answer for everything was to get high and escape.

I tried outpatient treatment but only managed to gain some new drug using friends and new techniques on how to get high out of the experience. I was still using and hadn’t accomplished my goal of ending my drug addiction problem. I reached out to my parents and they did some research on the internet. With their help I was put in touch with an amazing counselor at one of the Narconon Fresh Start programs. She was the voice on the other end of the phone that knew what I was going through. She understood my trepidation and made me feel like if put my trust in the program and applied myself I could get off cocaine and everything else. I headed out the next morning with my parents and made the drive over to California.

When I arrived I received a warm welcome and was taken on a brief tour of the facility with my parents. Withdrawal was difficult to say the least, but luckily for me cocaine isn’t physically addictive. I had completed the withdrawal process in a few days and was ready to begin the program. The changes I saw in myself were great but the changes my parents and friends heard in my voice and saw in the pictures I sent were even more amazing. The New Life Detoxification Program was able to help me flush out the remaining drug toxins from my years of substance abuse and put an end to my cravings. The drills and learning exercises I took part in made me come to realize my shortcomings so that when I graduated I wouldn’t be vulnerable to peer-pressure any longer. I found my voice and learned everyday skills that I somehow had never known. Being part of a group and doing things to better the greater good of the group and community gave me a sense of pride and purpose I’d never felt before. The experience changed my life in more ways that just getting off drugs; it helped me become an adult.

Narconon Fresh Start drug rehab programs are located in various settings, chosen for their scenic beauty and ability to provide people in recovery an ideal sanctuary from the temptations and restimulative environments that they have previously known. The philosophy of all Narconon Fresh Start drug rehab centers is that drug and alcohol addiction is not a disease and that a person is not powerless over their substance use. Their treatment philosophy is to treat drug and alcohol addiction for what it really is; a physical and mental problem that must be overcome with underlying issues that need to be addressed and resolved. Using holistic treatment methods, clients achieve lasting sobriety without the aid of replacement drugs or prescription medications. If you think about it, using replacement drugs or prescriptions to help a person recover only draws out their recovery process and causes them to be controlled by yet another substance. Instead of that approach to drug rehabilitation, Narconon Fresh Start utilizes their New Life Detoxification Method (a body cleansing and purification process) combined with Cognitive Behavioral Modification (addressing dysfunctional emotions, maladaptive behaviors and cognitive processes and contents through a number of goal-oriented, distinct systematic procedures) to achieve a very high success rate of true rehabilitation.

Narconon Fresh Start programs are designed to address each client’s addiction problem in its entirely. A graduate from any Narconon Fresh Start program has fully recovered from their drug and alcohol addiction and now has the tools and life skills to face the world head on meeting each challenge without turning to substance use as an escape. Their programs have over 45 years of successful graduates who continue to live healthy, happy and drug-free lives after completing treatment, I know because I’m one of them!

Drug Detox is Only the First Step

Narconon Fresh Start Drug DetoxificationDrug and alcohol detox is the first step in any comprehensive addition treatment program. No matter what the drug of choice is: alcohol, heroin, cocaine, meth, marijuana, prescription drugs, a combination of several, etc. stopping use and going through the withdrawal process is necessary. The type of detox (non-medical vs. medical) that will be necessary, most effective, and favorable depends on the client’s drug of addiction. The goal for each style of care is the same – physical and mental stabilization.

Narconon Fresh Start has a New Life Detoxification program that clients go through during their time in treatment. This portion of the program removes the drug residuals from the cells of the body, thereby eliminating the urge for drugs on a physical level. This process takes a several weeks, and it will help eliminate the source of the drug or alcohol cravings, so the program participant can focus on finding and confronting the source of his or her problems during the remainder of the program. Some program participants find that as drug residuals are being flushed out of the body they become triggered by them and can experience severe mood swings. But, as time in the sauna program continues, they will start to feel markedly better and improvements will be very noticeable in skin tone, sleep patterns and overall wellbeing.

All research shows that no matter what type of drug detox method one goes through, it is vital that it is followed up by drug addiction treatment. Enrolling in one of Narconon Fresh Start treatment centers addresses the different effects of addiction on the mind, body and spirit. Program participants are able to move past physical dependence and begin to sift through the psychological reasons for their initial addiction issues while learning effective coping skills for handling similar emotional struggles in the future – without turning to alcohol or drugs of any kind.

Hundreds of program participants graduate from our programs every year, becoming productive members of their families, work force and communities. Our program graduates no longer refer to themselves as addicts, are not obligated to attend meetings and are empowered with the knowledge that they have gained in the Narconon Fresh Start program. They have learned much more than how to refrain from drugs and alcohol, they now have the ability to communicate, to be comfortable with themselves, to control themselves, to be honest, to be responsible for their actions, to choose the right friends and to confront and overcome problems. Our program graduates are not only rehabilitated from substance abuse, they are now equipped with the tools necessary to be successful in the many other facets of their life.

No More Prescription Drugs!

Today, America is falling victim to the false belief that taking a prescription drug is “safe”. Their doctor prescribes it so it must be ok. The problem lies in the fact that doctors and pharmacists are in the business of fixing the patients immediate problem using medication, not addressing the underlying issue that is causing the problem in the first place. When a patient goes to a doctor complaining of depression or anxiety they will likely be put on an antidepressant or psychotropic medication to handle their symptoms. While these drugs have their place, it is not a long-term solution to actually fix the patients real issue.

Rainbow Canyon Retreat understands this fact and purposefully chooses to be a completely drug-free rehab program. We choose to only incorporate nutritional vitamins and mineral supplements into our clients program instead of administering prescription drugs to control their mental and physical state. Through our rehab courses clients learn valuable skills and techniques to handle their environment, emotions and life when they return home. We are able to completely rehabilitate our clients so that they are entirely drug and alcohol free and have fully incorporated our teachings into their daily life.

Clients of the Lonestar Victory Ranch drug rehab have many positive things to share:

“The staff here made my family and I feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I worked closely with the intake counselor who walked me through my orientation and was able to answer my questions as I had them. After being here just over a month I feel a lot of positive changes in myself and can’t wait to see how I will feel in another month, 6 months and year!”

“I graduated from Lonestar Victory Ranch a while back and still keep in contact with my case sup and other staff members I befriended while I was there. I know that they really do care about me and my wellbeing. This is a feeling I never had at any other program I went through before. I’m happy to share that I have six months of sobriety and I’m back in college. Also, thanks to all the training on how to study and learn new info while in rehab I’m doing better than ever in my classes!”

“Before I got hooked on taking prescription pain medication I was a really active person. I loved running and playing tennis. My addiction changed my priorities and I stopped being physical all together. While exercising for the sauna I rediscovered my passion for running and now feel more in shape than I have in years! Lonestar Victory Ranch did more than get me off prescription pills; it helped me become the woman I want to be. Thank you!”
